![]() The 16 will have plenty of line capacity because you're using thin line - 20 or 30lb braid. I was thinking of going with TOR30HGA but do you think i should get the TOR16HGA instead?ĭo you think it has enough stopping power for those monsters out there? But you think for the pulley ridge trip on yankee capts this would suffice for slow pitch? I am only going with this reel because thats what my budget allows for at this time. Definitely helps on making a choice, i'm thinking i might start off with the torium and try to get the extended handle for it,even though i couldn't find it on amazon. Wow man, thank you very much for the detailed response. Some have used the Ocean Master series of reels from Bass Pro, which they seem to like. There's not much in between these price points that I would recommend. I think Amazon prime has them for under $200. I would extend the handle as far as it can go. If you're going with a more budget conscious choice, the Shimano Torium 16HGA is a good option. Probably can get these for the low $400's if you look. Great reels, very smooth, but lack stopping power. In the same range as the Valiant, price wise, is the Ocea Jigger 2000. The Accurate Valiants are in the $400 range, DFS Slammers are custom made at about $550. (this includes Maxel Transformer 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, Studio Ocean Mark Blue Heaven S2T, Shimano Ocea Jigger 1500, 2000, 3000, Shimano Torsa 16N, etc etc). After trying many, many combinations, I find that these have the right balance of precision, power, line capacity and weight that works very well. Both will hold about 550 yards of Daiwa 30lb J-Braid. ![]() The Accurate Valiant 500n would be another great choice. I have many of these rods, and pair them with custom Accurate DFS Slammer 500xn reels. My immediate question is if you have the best slow pitch rod in the game - why skimp on a reel? You're fighting the fish with the reel primarily with slow pitch, so it's very important to have something reliable. ![]() 600 FS Manufacturers Forums (now merged into BOATING).1.3K Classified: Paddle Craft and Accessories.26.6K Classifieds Ads Forums (5 Forums).17.4K Southeast General Fishing & The Outdoors.2.6K Panhandle General Fishing & The Outdoors.13.7K Northwest General Fishing & The Outdoors.22K Northeast General Fishing & The Outdoors.7.6K Southwest General Fishing & The Outdoors.9.4K East Central General Fishing & The Outdoors.10.3K West Central General Fishing & The Outdoors.2K Ten Thousand Islands General Fishing & The Outdoors.9.4K Big Bend General Fishing & The Outdoors.8.4K South General Fishing & The Outdoors.9.6K Keys General Fishing & The Outdoors.112.5K Regions-Fishing Reports (11 Forums).55.8K General Outdoors Forums (8 Forums). You can also get a left handed model in silver.
